Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs)

ALDs come in the form of devices that work to enhance specific listening environments. For example, there are devices that just amplify the sound of the TV, so that the person with hearing loss is the only person receiving amplification from the TV. There are devices available for the telephone, movie theaters, churches, business meetings, concert halls, and schools.

ALDs also come in the form of alerting devices, providing safety in the home or work environment. Some examples of alerting devices, include amplified smoke alarms, alarm clocks, door bells, and security systems.

ALDs may be an affordable way to make your living and work environments safer, and enhance overall communication abilities.

Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR)

Electrodes are placed behind the ears and on the forehead. Earphones are inserted into the ear canals and the patient is instructed to lay back quietly with eyes closed. Clicks and/or tonebursts will be heard through the earphones. There is no patient response required.

This test is useful in the evaluation of noise-induced hearing loss, asymmetrical hearing loss, tinnitus, auditory processing disorders, and may rule out pathologies or lesions along the auditory pathway(s).

Balance and Dizziness: Positional Vertigo and Epley Maneuver

Dr. Esse will evaluate your symptoms by first taking a thorough case history. A simple positional test will be done in the office to determine if a specific type of vertigo exists, called Positional Vertigo or BPPV. The Epley Maneuver may be done to treat this type of vertigo if appropriate. Please call 971-4199 for further information and details.

Central Auditory Processing Evaluations

First, a complete hearing evaluation is done to ensure the child has normal hearing. Once normal hearing has been established, several tests are utilized to assess the child's ability to use information effectively that comes in through the ears. If a Central Auditory Processing deficit is found, there are several strategies, classroom accommodations, and/or therapies that may be recommended to improve the child's auditory skills.

This type of testing is generally done using a "team approach". The child, parents/caregivers, teachers, and audiologist team up to work with other professionals such as a school psychologist, speech-language pathologist, resource teacher, and physician. This team will ensure success for the child in all environments and in all aspects of his or her daily activities.

Ear Molds: Custom-made noise protection earmolds

We recommend custom hearing protection devices and earmolds for any individual who is exposed to noise at work or recreationally. Specifically, these custom earmolds are best suited to the following people: contractors, construction workers, hunters, factory workers, heavy machinery operators, mechanics, pilots and aircraft crew, musicians, race car drivers and fans, motorcycle enthusiasts, and any other people exposed to loud environments.

FirstSound Newborn Screening Provider

It is estimated that 1 in 1000 infants will have a hearing loss. Often this hearing loss is missed until the child is having speech-language delays. Early intervention is key to allowing children with hearing loss to achieve their speech, language and hearing milestones. We are proud to be part of this program!

Hearing Aids: Sales and Service

Please call 971-4199 or stop by the Center to inquire about specific makes and models of hearing aids.

Hearing Evaluations: Adults

The evaluation starts with a thorough case history and visual examination of the ears. We use video otoscopy to allow you to see your outer ear and eardrum! Immittance testing is then done, including a Tympagnogram (middle ear test) that shows the Audiologist how the eardrum and middle ear are functioning. An Acoustic Reflex test is part of the immittance testing, which checks how well sounds travel to and from the hearing mechanism. Puretone and speech testing then reveal how well you hear at each frequency in each ear. We may also do an Otoacoustic Emmission test to quickly determine if each ear is capable of receiving sounds.

Hearing Evaluations: Children

We use Video Otoscopy (visual inspection of the ears), a Tympanogram (middle ear test), Acoustic Reflex testing (test of the integrity of the hearing mechanism), and Otoacoustic Emmissions (test of the ability of each ear to receive sounds), to begin testing with each child. We then use visual rewards to test children in the soundbooth, or if they are able to wear earphones, we can use play to determine how quietly children may hear sounds in each ear. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to join the child in the soundbooth. We always make the experience fun and interactive!

Loop Induction Systems

We install and service loop induction hearing systems in churches, theaters, community centers, or auditoriums. The systems assist people who wear hearing aids to use their aids in a public place.

Musicians' Custom Ear Plugs and Monitors

Conventional earplugs muffle speech and music. Musicians' custom earplugs and monitors allow the passage of certain frequencies in order to provide the most natural, clear, and accurate sounds while wearing hearing protection.

Who uses Musicians' Earplugs?
Musicians, Marching Bands, Sound Crews, Recording Engineers, Band Teachers, Concert Goers, DJs, Airline Personnel, Athletic Coaches, Athletes, Referees and Timekeepers, Motorcyclists, Dentists.

Real-ear measurement

A small, thin computer probe is placed into the ear canal alongside the hearing aid. Computer measurements are made to ensure that the hearing aid is accurately producing the prescribed sound levels in your ear. This technology provides the most precise sound through the hearing aid.

Tinnitus Diagnostics

Tinnitus is usually only heard by the individual perceiving it, and therefore may be difficult to measure. However, we can match the pitch of the tinnitus, and therefore uncover what type of treatment, therapy or device may be most suitable for your type of tinnitus.

Please call 971-4199 for more information and to schedule an evaluation today. Insurance accepted.
